My first introduction to influence mapping was Sunlight Foundation and Maplight Foundation's work on donations and voter roles.

David spoke about Influence Mapping at a smaller scope; within the context of a project. Each team member may have their own goals, approaches, and concerns related to the project. Understanding the context of the environment increases the likelihood of finding shared ground in desired outcomes and ways to approach the problem space at hand.
