Re-purposing the Workforce

Government is broken. This is not an attack on any individual or public employee, but as a whole, the current state of government is evidence of bad systematic thinking.

National debt. Corruption.

Government revenues (inputs) do not match outputs. We should know what our tax revenue is, from every source, and they should be well managed. Government, as a whole, is the largest employer in the United States (needs citation). City, County, State, and Federal government employees are better compensated than private counterparts (cite).
A very interesting topic is the media. The media likes to frame things in black and white. Republican vs. Democrat. The world is not this way.

Long term goals: no (or at least manageable) national debt, high quality health care, high quality education, jobs for everybody. Eliminate (or severly reduce) welfare. We should not be talking about job creation - there is plenty to do. We should be talking about job environment cultivation. How can the government create an environment where people can start business, businesses can hire people, and people can work for a living wage and do valuable work? Enabling people to do nothing is a drain on the economy and moreso on our culture. For example, guarantee a person a job as an assistant at a local school for the same (or slightly increased) wage as they currently receive in welfare compensation.

How many people are on welfare that do not work? How many tasks need to be done that we 'just don't have the resources for'? Pensions are great in theory. But, they are unsustainable. How can a system work that has more outputs than it has inputs?

Unsustainable government. It seems to be common practice that government provides services as resources are available, and that resources become available on a yearly cycle. Well, it'd be a shame for individuals to live like this, and its a shame our government does as well. We should all be developing a bit more long-term approach to government spending, development, and service provision. An approach that is responsible and reflexive to the needs that we really have as individuals.
