Redundancies in Public Workflow

When evaluating organizational workflow processes, a characteristic of a well-designed process is no unnecessary duplications of effort.

When filing the array of paperwork to operate as a nonprofit in California, I had to send the IRS Form 1023 to CA. I had to send it for the 3500. I also had to send my Articles of Incorporation 4 different times.

This duplication of effort is unnecessary.

An alternative way to handle this would for the State to automatically retrieve the corresponding data from its proper canonical source. Imposing the burden on people and organizations to provide duplicate copies is a waste of resources, time, and effort. This is one way I think California can improve public service.
