Migrating from Google Books to Goodreads
I took pride in shortcutting literature in high school and most of college - reading enough to get by. But I did not savor reading. I certainly did not read for enjoyment.
When I started living on my own though, I envisioned myself a reader. To be well-read, one must read. I just hadn't done a lot of it, formally.
Ever since I began reading books, I've kept track of the books I've read, in the order I've read them. Unfortunately, I didn't strictly keep dates for them, until Kindle came along.
As 2016 approaches, I'm fulling Fahrenheit 451, and seeking to minimize the number of paper books I keep in our small apartment.
I've been using Google Books to track what I'm reading for a couple years, but maintaining it is more of an afterthought because I do not incorporate it into my natural reading flow. Specifically, Google Books doesn't have a place to track when you finish reading a book. Well, GoodReads does have that field, and many others, plus an API, and the support of Amazon, on paper at least. So, time to migrate!
