The Effect of Open Letters

The idea of posting something and requiring that somebody else acknowledge the page is interesting. Like an open letter from a citizen to a public representative. Is there any way to get a public representative to come and "stamp" something? what about having an initiative posted. then having a specified number of people "stamp" it online.

  • identity is a major issue here. What are the obstacles in terms of online identity? (answers: Digital Divide, etc.) But there is something to be said for accessible government. It will make us get lots of issues ironed out. Flexibility that stems from the inefficiencies that is government will be exposed. I just encourage society to interpret the great amount of slack (excess government) as an opportunity to pursue more leisure and balanced lives as Americans. When we identify real priorities like health, education, freedom, sustainability, and an ever-growing number of societal constructs, infrastructure, organizations, and programs, it is important to play with a full deck, so to speak. The better we understand our public systems, the better we can achieve better public outcomes. Plus, discussions about what "better" means can be more grounded in more fact. Public staff does very well for the most part, yet public institutions tend to carry organizational inertia of their own which often deviates from the public interest. The deviation isn't even necessarily bad, but when it is at taxpayer expense, when public budgets are not balanced and public debt continues to increase, the need to adapt to the changing reality that mediocrity in government is unacceptable. Certainly, government itself (whatever that means) isn't wholly responsible. Citizens have an equal part in learning, participating, and organizing on their own. Citizens have the responsibility of clearly defining what they want from their government. [ Sidebar: I bet procedural forms would not be on the top of government lists, but people ( both citizens and public staff) must also understand how data is collected, managed, and used.
