A personal retro on the SF Hackathon
Gavin Mehl had Kevin Healy and I on to discuss the SF sCrypt Hackathon.
I wanted to share some additional thoughts about ways we might respond and adjust in the future.
How can it be better?
- More focus on hands-on breakouts
I mentioned more time to hack / write code, but tbh, meeting people was the primary benefit.
Other thoughts,
Bitcoin needs some sustaining effort
There are strong capitalist narratives in bitcoin and generally, VC money is shunned. Yet, the reality is, development currently needs attention so useful applications can be developed, and the network and its applications also needs attention from users.
Many eyes will make bugs shallow, and hopefully, value more visible.
Ultimately this is about attention. The value network, the truth network are built on an assumption of attention, and we're not there yet.
I asked Xaiohiu about additional hackathons, and he that this is the 'forever hackathon.' The words struck me as wise. And I'd like to do what I can to be a contribute constructively to the bitcoin ecosystem.
