Composing systems that serve People Often, when people talk about government, I can't help feel the implicit wholism of the statement. Ah, government! Big G Government. All of it. The current System doesn't work. So people work on systems within their control - things they can contribute to. I spent nearly 10 years in the public sector, and witnessed several software procurements for licensed software plus additional call-when-you-crash style support. I saw a few decent relationships as well. Small vendors solving small, but concrete, tangible problems. Large vendors with an energetically friendly help engineer. What is the Scope? Where are the seams? Where can we see? All of it like Wal-Mart. Reflecting on the ascent of #edemocracy, #opengov, and now #civictech, the aspirational nature remains constant. People seek Transparency. People want to feel heard, to feel included. To be meaningful.
