In December 2009, the WHite House issued an Open Government Directive, which begins, "The three principles of transparency, participation, and collaboration form the conrerstone of an Open Government." In many circles, Open Government has become synonymous with transparency and openness in government. In practice, this means... Political Data - voting, campaigns, contributions Legislative Data - drafts, proposals, laws Operational - metrics, finances, students, programs, etc... Meta (COntributed) Valuable of Open Government is in participation and collaboration. Citizens getting involved. Getting geographical coverage & combining interests Participation and collaboration between government and citizens will be greatly enhanced when the interaction is supported by data that is accurate, complete, and readily available. Just as Web 2.0 changed the Internet from read-only to read-write.
