Purpose:
Improve the relevance of query results

describe items on your page.  what is it?  describe it.

Google documents which properties are used for which products.  Keeps people on the exact same page across products.
Standards are only useful if you abide by them.  Only change them with reason.
How much should you markup?  As much as make sense given resources and goals.  
Rich Snippets Testing Tool.
Idea: Basic Metadata score: for markup.
Read keywords, descriptions, and other metadata.
Give URL, get a page report of metadata (and search engine rankings).
Inline markup is preferable as opposed to at the end of a page, for example.
